When I reflect on my favourite experiences in life, learning new languages stands out. After 20 years of travelling and studying languages, I can confidently say it's been an incredible journey. Cracking language codes, making friends from around the world, and navigating the delightful chaos of different cultures have enriched my life in ways I never expected. What insight! What fun!

As I look back on my studies and adventures, I realise they may have seemed self-indulgent. However, the joy I now feel watching my children learn languages is truly rewarding. While they learn another new language at school, I’m also teaching them Portuguese, and it thrills me to see them grasping it. Their excitement in joining in and speaking Portuguese on their own is a joy to behold. They may never travel to Brazil (though I hope they do), but for now, sharing my knowledge of Portuguese and Brazilian culture with them is a delightful experience. We’re having a blast together as they learn!
